This is the fifth major installation of Ghost Net Landscape, and the first in California. Working with locally reclaimed fishing gear from Klamath River tribal salmon fisheries and Humboldt Bay crab fisheries, we will be collaboratively weaving a large-scale artwork reflecting the story of the place. The piece evolved during my Artist Engagement Week, and beyond.
I also exhibited a selection of my own recent works in the gallery. Click here to view all works included.
Yurok Canoe Tour
Fishing gear collected from the Klamath River was donated by Yurok Tribal Fisheries river cleanup crews, and used to make art in the exhibit! As part of my Artist-in-Residence research, I was able to learn from Yurok tribal members on a tour of the Klamath River in one of just three traditionally built redwood canoes that are available for public tours. Immersive video of the river tour was projected on the gallery wall as part of the exhibit, with subtitled audio from Canoe Captain Julian Markussen Jr.
